On Saturday, 8 August Pearson Group organized a seminar for the teachers of St. Anthony’s Convent School Jaigaon and Gramercy School Dalsingpara. It was conducted at St. Anthony’s Convent School Jaigaon.
The facilitator Madam Soma Banerjee was welcomed with a speech and offering of Khadas. The active and lively personality started her talk on “smile”. She said that a smiling face is appreciated and liked by all especially the students. Therefore she invited all the teachers to start the class with a smile.
The main topic of the seminar was “Classroom Management”. She talked on the need and importance of classroom management for effective teaching and learning process. In relation to the same she displayed a slide show with different emotional expression on faces. She requested the teachers to put a check on physical and mental abuse. She said that threat and punishment will have negative impact on learning. Instead reward and reinforcement will help the students to Positive Learning. It is said that teaching is not a profession but a vocation. The teachers are to train the students so that they know what they should do before and after school and to know their responsibilities and the consequences.The Facilitator focused on creating positive environment. Teachers are to create positive environment for the students so that they feel that they are of equal importance to all the teachers.She emphasized on modern education which aims at all round development, a holistic and global development of children so that the students realize that they are learning for themselves and for their lives as to become a complete human.During her session she also laid out the differences between proactive and reactive teachers. It was conveyed that a proactive teacher is the one who plans and updates him/herself with his matter so as to suit the need of individuals whereas a reactive teacher does not update herself with the latest innovations.The later part of the session was dealt with the topic “intelligence”. It was clearly stated that all the students are intelligent but they are differently intelligent. A slide show presentation on multiple intelligence was displayed. Teachers are to tackle the students after knowing their different intelligences.The facilitator imparted the knowledge on framing rules. She suggested framing rules involving students so they feel that they are the part of it and equally responsible. She concluded that the classroom management refers to all that a teacher does to organize students, time, space and materials so that instruction in content and student learning can take place. The session concluded with a slide show presentation on the qualities of a good teacher.
A lot of interaction was done and the seminar is sure to prove beneficial to the teachers. It was expected that the teachers apply the learnt matter to classroom teaching. The seminar ended with thanks giving speech and a photo session.
