On 9^th August 2014, St. Mary’s Convent School, hosted the Gospel Melody -2014 for classes seven and below. The theme chosen for this year was “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” (Mt. 5:7), the theme for the World Day of Youth in Krakow.

Four ARCEIS (Association of the Roman Catholic Education Institution in Sikkim)  schools comprising  of 29 students from each school  participated in the competitions. We had Rev. Fr. Dr. Daniel Bara SJ, Principal of Loyola college, Namchi, as the Chief Guest and a few teachers as judges.

The event started with a beautiful Prayer dance invoking the Holy Spirit followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and the Superior Sr. Nirmala Tigga.  The Choir Competition which was Scripture based was the first category of the event. It was followed by the Skit competition on the given theme which was performed through a dance drama or a skit. Third event was the Character presentation of a Scriptural personage with declamation. The final category of the event was the Quiz Competition   which was effectively conducted by Sr. Francesca Lepcha FC from Jorethang.  All the four category of events were well prepared and well presented by each school.

Rev. Fr. Walter Crasta, our parish priest gave away the prizes for individual events and the chief guest Rev. Fr. Daniel Bara gave away the overall trophies. The day’s victory was won by SMS and overall champion cup was bagged by them. St. Xavier School, Pakyong was the first runners up and St. Francis School, Jorethang was the second runners up.   It was indeed a day of great joy for all of us as we had a wonderful opportunity to evangelise and share our faith with the non-Christian recipients of our mission.

The day ended with a common lunch for all in the school premises.
