On 11th December 2017, students of Class VIII-IX of Auxilium Convent, Bandel accompanied by Miss Soumita went to witness the Interschool International Debating Festival held at Techno India Group Public School, Chinsurah. Surprising them greatly, the participating schools were Boston College High School, USA; Model Westminster, UK; NPS, Singapore; Mayo College, Ajmer and the host school, TIGPS. The event which was eagerly awaited for, began with invoking the blessings of God by the lighting of the holy lamp by the School Principal and honoured Guests which was followed by a welcome song by the school choir, ‘Rhythm’ and a classical dance performance. The guests and heads of Participating schools were felicitated with shawls and bouquets.

Finally the event began with Mr. Ramalingam and a debator of Calcutta Debating Club (CDC) presiding as moderators for the debate. There were three topics that were debated over – the first being ‘Neither Science nor Humanities but Value based Education is the need of the hour’, the second being ‘Go Green- Moving towards a paperless world’ and the last – ‘Impact of Technology on Education’.
The speeches delivered by the participants were deeply engrossing and thought provoking. In the question answer rounds the audience asked pertinent questions which were well answered. All put their minds to work and paid a great deal of attention to all that was spoken. Something very valuable was learnt that day – “Education and Technology open minds but values teach what to take and what not to.” The program ended with the national anthems of the four nations. Students felt proud to be able to represent their school and their nation in the august gathering and expressed their gratitude to Rev. Sr. Superior, Sr. Elizabeth and Rev. Sr.Principal, Sr. Regina for giving them this wonderful opportunity.
