100 Years of Salesian Sister’s presence in INDIA celebrated at St. Mary’s Convent School, Geyzing !

GEYZING: July 23, 2022: The advent of Salesian Sisters in the pre-independence era in 1922, at Tanjore Chennai, indeed was the year of a door opening for the mission. Since its inception, the congregation has grown from strength to strength spreading all over India. Therefore, the celebration to mark the centenary year the School Management, Staff, and Students of St. Mary’s Convent School Geyzing, West Sikkim organized two days program in the School.

The historic event was also integrated with the celebration of Parents’ Day. All the invitees and the distinguished guests were present for two days programme. For the first day of the programme Mrs. Yishey  Doma Yongda, District Magistrate cum Collector West Sikkim presided over the celebration as the Chief Guest whereas Mr. Subbaih the Chief Education Officer – Geyzing District was the Chief guest for the second day of the programme.

The events of these days began with much zeal and enthusiasm. A solemn welcome event by the pride of St. Mary’s brass band led to the inauguration of the celebration. The cultural programmes commenced soon after the initial solemn ceremonial events.  On behalf of the Management and administration Principal  Sr. Lucy Kachira welcomed the guests. Different classes presented their cultural events. The variety of performances were meticulously designed by the sisters, teachers and students. The entire programme was structured to entertain and give demonstrate the importance of celebration. The beautiful and meaningful skit on the arrival of the first missionaries and the smiling Saint Don Bosco was well presented by the students. Cultural dances of Sikkim, the fusion dance and the Centenary song by the students rocked the stage and won the appreciation of all.

Relevant instances were envisaged during the speech by the Chief Guests, to emphasize the upbringing of a child. More than 600 Parents witnessed the celebration. With the words of gratitude, the celebration came to an end singing National Anthem by all.
