Youth Day Celebration

On 23 July 2017, the youth of St. John Mary Vianney Parish, New Chumta celebrated the youth Day with great enthusiasm. 140 young  were present on this occasion. It commenced with solemn Mass in the parish Church celebrated  by Fr. Ignatius Bara. During the homily Fr. Ignatius Bara explained ‘the Parable of the Weeds’ and invited the young people to be good seeds which belong to heaven.

Soon after Mass, the cultural program was followed in Auxilium auditorium. It was consist of  talks, action songs, and dances . Fr. Ignatius Bara in his talk  said that  we may fall many times but must we have the courage to get up each time when we fall. We are invited to make effort and to walk ahead in life.  Sr. Inocencia Jojo FMA also gave her valuable contribution by sharing  the preparatory document of the XV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops with the theme  ‘Young People, the Faith and Vocational accompaniment’.

After the  lunch all gathered again in the auditorium to entertain the assembly  with traditional dance.  Everyone actively participated in the game. Lastly, all the new office bearers were presented to the whole group. The celebration came to an end with the distribution of the snacks by Mr. Anil Singh from Siliguri.

Youth Fest -‘We are a family’

The Annual Youth fest of Salesian Province of Kolkata was held at Don Bosco Park Circus from 20 – 23 January 2017, there were 500 young participants from 38 institutions of the Salesian Family in which ten catholic students of Auxilium Barasat took part.  The theme chosen for this event was ‘We are a family’  The Fest began on 20th evening with a spectacular opening ceremony during which Rev. Fr. Nirmal Gomes SDB the provincial of Kolkata, declared the fest open. The Youth were divided into four language groups. Various input and interactive sessions were given. Each day began with Morning Prayer and Holy Eucharistic celebrations. Various competitions were held on biblical themes. Auxilium Barasat bagged the 1st Prize for Biblical Fiesta. The most spectacular event of the Youth fest was the peace rally. The theme song we are a family became a hit among the youth. The last day concluded with thanks giving and prize distribution ceremony. We thank our sisters and animators for providing us with such wonderful opportunity to know more about Salesian family and the richness of it.

Youth Sambilan at Kurtumgarh Parish,

On 12th October one-day youth programme was organized at Kurtumgarh Parish, Kandhamal.  Rev. Fr. Jibanta Kumar Nayak, the assistant parish priest, Raikia was the resource person.  More  than 100 youth from the villages belonging to Kurtumgarh parish had gathered together to gain some experiences to make their living more creative, active and strengthen their faith.  At 10.oo a.m. Fr. Jasmanta Pradhan, the assistant priest welcomed the youth and asked them to introduce themselves. Sr. Annie Theyattil congratulated them for attending the camp.  She narrated Don Bosco’s dream of the dragon and the Rosary.  October being the month of the Holy Rosary she told them to pray the rosary devoutly and regularly to overcome the problems in life.

The camp began with the lighting of the lamp followed by the talk.  Fr.Jibanta helped them to reflect on four seasons of life; spring, summer, monsoon and winter.  He compared this with one’s own life.  A person has to face this four seasons in life.  Spring; childhood days, Summer; holding responsibility, monsoon: difficulties in life, winter; old age.  Through this imagery he enlightened them on the value of a human life and its worth.  Sr. Shanti Tirkey helped them to refresh themselves with a self composed Odia action song.  At the end of the talk Fr. Jibanta divided them into four groups and gave them two questions to discuss, and decide some action plan.DSC01078.JPG

Sr. Prisca Bara assisted them during the group discussion. They felt good and mostly all the group agreed to be a good natured and responsible youth.

Sr. Shanti asked the youth the 14 works of mercy and the winner was rewarded. The youth day concluded with Eucharistic celebration followed by fellowship meal.  We hope to have more gathering of young people to orient them for better life.

 

South Zonal Youth Feast  at Auxilium Kalyani

South Zonal Youth feast was held at Kalyani, Auxilium on 23rd July with the theme “Merciful like the Father”.90 youth in all participated from the 5 substation parishes of Ranaghat, Hobhipur, Teharpur, Madanpur and Narayanpur, accompanied by 12 priests and religious from their respective parishes.

Bishop Joseph Gomes from Krishnagar on the onset lit the sacred lamp to draw the Almighty’s blessings and guidance through the day. This was followed by a welcome address by Fr. Raphael sdb, the parish priest of Kalyani. The graceful welcome dance by Kalyani ushered us to the day’s program. 3 input Sessions given by Fr. Saroj Mullick sdb,  on the Year of Mercy, by Fr. Onshu Gayen, the Diocesan Youth Director on Evangelization and Brother Juntu Mondol on Contribution of Youth in the Church, all through Power Point Presentations.

The afternoon session after lunch took all to their heels with the ‘Treasure Hunt’ with excitement, joy, enthusiasm and a mingling of one family, all eager to find the ‘treasure’. The cultural program offered by all the parishes was yet another ice breaking event that kept feet beating to the rhythm of music and dance. Finally the stirring message to all the youth by Fr. Onshu was certainly a home taking one where he stressed the need for all youth to be beacon lights of God’s mercy and love, his peace and justice. He said every gathering like this is to ‘learn’ something. It eventually is to bring about a transformation of ourselves and that of others.

Before all could depart the entire group was again united in a moment of joy, laughter and merriment through group dances and singing. We thanked the good and Almighty God for favorable weather and a successful zonal Youth Fest.

 

ICYM Regional Youth Convention

Youth Convention..On 19th –  22nd October  IV  ICYM Regional Youth Convention  was held in St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Raiganj Diocese. It was organized by Regional Youth Commission. The theme of the Convention was “Touched by Jesus, Walking His way”. ICYM from 8 dioceses of West Bengal & Sikkim Region around 500 participated in this convention. From our diocese (Krishnagar) 60 youth along with 4 animators participated. We reached Raiganj around 9am on 19 Oct.  At, 2 pm there was inaugural Mass, celebrated by Rev. Bishop Vincent Aind (Diocese of Bagdogra), after which there was a flag hoisting and inaugural ceremony. During the inaugural session, before declaring the “Youth Convention open” the Rev. Bishop Aind exhorted the youth saying that they are the future of the church, and this is the time to rejuvenate their faith in Jesus. The Thrusts of this Convention were Youth to Youth Evangelization, Youth Empowerment, Socio Political Leadership and Media Advocacy. On the second day of the program Rt. Rev. Bishop Syprian the chairman of West Bengal & Sikkim Region was the chief guest of the day. In his short talk he appreciated and encouraged the youth for corresponding in big numbers. He also appealed to the youth to keep the church alive and vibrant. This convention was a great enrichment for all those who participated in it. Sr. Alma Bilung, Devraj Gomes and Sita represented the group from Kalyani parish.

Auxiproclaimers’

 It was a great day for Auxilium Barasat to host the Auxiproclaimers’ Youth Camp from 23 -25 October 2014. ‘Young proclaimers of Christ in Bosco way’ was the theme for the camp organized by EDUMEDYM INC- Education, media and Youth ministry sectors of the province. The arrival of youth on 23rd October from Auxilium Dum Dum, Bandel, Gobra and Kalyani and Barasat filled the campus with joy and cheer. They were warmly welcomed by sisters  and borders  and escorted to their respective places.    The camp commenced with the inaugural ceremony  of hoisting the bicentenary flag by Sr. Mary George U, with the cheers of the 145 young people and  slow march by the Auxilium Barasat students with the  accompaniment of drums.After saluting the flag the three co-ordinators in-charge of  organizing the camp, Sr. Rosalia Tirkey,Sr. Rosy Veliyan and Sr. Stella D released three pigeon with the numerical  200 to mark  bicentennial of the birth of Don Bosco  and Sr. Stella declared the camp open.  The young people response was the Vibrant  AYM Anthem sung with gusto.  The ice braking session was conducted by Sr. Kanchan Bara.  She invited each group to pick up the name of a prophet and asked each group to present the name of the group creatively.  Within no time the young people were back with the title exhibition with creative genius.  This was followed by a session ‘St. John Bosco – the fascinating saint” by Sr. Rosy Veliyan to draw the young people to the saint of the young who turned 200.

 Being the day of Diwali a candle light Rosary was organized to honour our blessed mother. The whole ground was   lit and the ambient filled with the recitation of the Aves.   After supper the groups had the Gospel songs and psalm enactment competitions. With the limited time provided the groups were able to compete and excel in their display.   The day’s climax was the celebration of the festival lights – the campers were provided with harmless fire crackers to burn and dance round with the rhythmic beat of music.

The morning of 24 May commenced with a morning prayer with short reflection conducted by Sr. Rosalia Tirkey.   Morning input session was given by Sr. Stella  D who enlightened and propelled the young people to be prophets by presenting the roles and responsibilities of the prophets with a  PPT  presentation interspersed with many video clips making it more lively and understandable.  Underlining message was God chooses anyone to be his messengers and one needs to be open to respond in-spite of our unworthiness.

The next session was delivered by Rev. Fr. Saroj Mullick SDB, the director of Don Bosco Youth centre Kalyani. He dealt with the topic ‘Proclaimers of Christ in Bosco way’ and he invited the young people to share their experience of God/ Jesus to their friends. They need to follow the teachings of Don Bosco like St. Domenic Savio and Bl. Laura Vicuna, being always cheerful; doing ones responsibilities well and giving helping hand to their friends they can be relevant in proclaiming Christ in today’s context. During the Eucharistic celebration he challenged the young people to have the knowledge of Jesus in order to proclaim Christ to their friends and in their families.  In the afternoon they had group discussions on how to be modern proclaimers of the Gospel. They came up with various ideas for proclaiming Christ in modern time such as by using modern technology and by fulfilling ones obligations in living up ones faith.  Most awaited hour was the time of games where the 10 groups vied with one another to win the five games organized for them – airport route, treasure hunt, centipede race, water filling race and Bombing the city.

The evening the young people entered into a hallowed space with Taize prayer combined with Holy Rosary animated by Sr. Rosalia and her team.  During the prayer Fr. Leo Jayaraj was available for the confessions and many young people approached the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  During the campfire animated by Sr. Leelama Palliparmbil   with games, cheers, and songs the organizers inserted the completions on choreography on AYM Song, camp songs and Don Bosco song and a folkdance. All these competitions helped to   build positive team spirit and competitiveness.

On 25thMorning started with group wise Gospel sharing along with the sister in-charge directed by Sr. Rosalia Tirkey.   The Barasat ambient was imbued with the spirit as the ten groups got engrossed in reflecting and sharing the word. The next session ‘Proclaimers of Jesus’ was dealt by Rev. Fr. Mourlin Ferando SJ. He through his life experience challenged the young people to redefine their possibilities as their future will depend on the choices they make now.

The Eucharist was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Sudhir Nayak and in his sermon he invited the young people to know Christ, become like Christ and do like Christ.  He also was the chief guest during their valedictory function. He gave away the prizes and certificates for the winners of various competitions and the best campers. At the end the young people and sisters took the pledge to live the commitments taken to be the proclaimers of Christ in Don Bosco’s way. Then one of the campers thanked all the sisters of Auxilium Convent Barasat, all those who organized the camp and all those who had contributed to make the camp a successful one. After the valedictory function Rev. Sr. Lily Perumpettikunnel lowered the Bicentennial flag while the campers sang a hymn to Don Bosco.  After posing for group photo the campers proceeded for the festal lunch.  And they were sent forth like the disciples to proclaim Jesus among their peers and in their neighbourhood.

C. L. C.ers you are the light of the Family

The C.L.C Rally was held in Kunkuri on 2-3 October 2014.  The theme of the rally was ‘C.L.C’ers you are the light of the Family.  6727 youth from various schools and parishes participated in the rally. From our school 53 students, two teachers, Sr. Shanti Tirkey and Sr. Archana Kujur joined the group.  It was organized by Fr. Rakesh Bara SJ and his confreres.

The young people were inspired encouraged, and empowered by the cultural programmes on Adivasi culture and customs. Talks were given on the topics such as C.L.C’ers you are the light of the family, migration in Jashpur and Christian faith is our life.  The gathering was blessed by the presence of His Eminence Cardinal Telesphore Toppo. In his short message he exhorted the young people never to resist God’s call and he narrated the story of his call to priesthood.   On the last day Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Kerketta, the Bishop of Kunkuri presided over the Holy Eucharist.  He encouraged the young people to face the daily challenges of life with Christ and for Christ.
