BICENTENARY CELEBRATION OF DON BOSCO’S BIRTH

Dum Dum DB 200

Students of Auxilium School Dum Dum took a step forward to make known Don Bosco to their neighbouring English medium Schools. On the 17th July 2015, class XI C organized an inter School Speech Competition on ‘Torch Bearers’ under the guidance of the Principal Sr. Esther. WWA Cossipore, St. Stephen School, National English School, St. Mary’s Orphanage and Day School and our school took part in the event. It was a privilege for our school to have Provincial Sr. Rose Ezarath as our Chief Guest. It began with a prayer, a welcome dance and a short film on Don Bosco’s encounter with young prisoners. The students were inspired by the deep trust Don Bosco had in the youngsters. Everybody knew about Don Bosco’s faith in God but it was new for the other school students to know how much Don Bosco trusted youngsters.

The speeches of all the participants were enlightening. A slide show on Don Bosco’s preventive system was presented by the students. The programme ended with the distribution of prizes. The first & second position was secured by WWA Cossipore School. National English School secured the third position. In conclusion class XI C sang a melodious song to honor Don Bosco. The programme was a great success and a forerunner of the closing ceremony of the Bicentenary celebration of Don Bosco’s Birth Anniversary.

Past Pupils of Dum Dum Unit reach out ……..

Visit-Green Park-Mother T.

                           VISIT TO GREEN PARK

The Past pupils of Dum Dum Unit along with Sr. Esther, the Delegate of the local unit, headed first to visit Green Park, the home for the mentally challenged for women. They were welcomed by the superior of the house. Some inmates sang to greet their new visitors. It was an emotional moment to see some inmates in a state of oblivion without any knowledge of their surroundings. We should be grateful to God, who has blessed us with the wonderful gift i.e the brain with which we can correspond correctly with one another. The members distributed snacks, cakes and soft drinks to all the 320 inmates of the house. It was good to see how the Missionaries of Charity carry forward their goals to serve the poorest of the poor and the unwanted people of the society.

VISIT TO ST ANN’S HOME FOR THE AGED

Visit -Old age Home

Our next destination was the visit to St Ann’s Home. Sr Superior welcomed the Past Pupils. The Past Pupils individually met each inmates and distributed snacks, biscuits, rice and potatoes in a substantial amount. It was sad to hear the tragic story of why they were left in the old age home. I thought for a moment, is it because of this that most parents bring their children up – to spend life all alone in a far off home only to count the days of their earthly end? Well I leave the question unanswered!

FMA - retreat

The Annual Spiritual Retreat for junior sisters, novices and postulants was held in Auxilium Bandel from 17th – 23rd May 2015. It was preached by Rev. Sr. Celine Tharapel MSMI and Fr. P.V. Thomas SDB. There were 22 participants: 2 postulants entering into the novitiate, 2 novices going to make their First Profession, 2 SMI sisters, 5 sisters making their Perpetual Profession and other 11 sisters renewing the vows.

The retreat was based on charismatic inner healing. It was a time of receiving special grace, to rediscover ourselves and our inner wounds that we posses from our childhood onwards. Sr. Celine through her talks and short video clips made us realize the importance of our prayer life and the aim of our consecrated life. She emphasized that holiness is personal. It does not consist in not making mistakes or never sinning. Holiness grows with capacity for conversion, repentance, willingness to begin again and above all with the capacity for reconciliation and forgiveness.

All the retreatants had a wonderful experience of God, the power of the Holy Rosary and freedom from our inner wounds. At the end of the retreat the retreatants took the following resolutions to live our consecrated life to the full.

  1. Regular for personal prayer
  2. Read the Word of God
  3. Regular reception of the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confession
  4. Have devotion to Mother Mary, Saints and Angels
  5. Be submissive and obedient to Superiors
  6. Fast once a week with permission
  7. Pray every day for inner healing
  8. Stop criticizing people
  9. Continuously pray for the fruits of the Holy Spirit
  10. Continuous life style of repentance.
