Jubilee Celebration at Auxilium, Dum Dum

The Diamond Jubilee of Sr. Mary Sarkar and the Golden Jubilee of Sr. Lily Perumpettikunnel, Sr. Teresa Adampakallel and Sr. Teresa Mundackal were celebrated on 24 October 2023 at Auxilium, Provincial House, Dum Dum.  Sr. Annie Thevarkunnel, the golden jubilarian who is in the generalate too was fondly remembered on this occasion. A large number of sisters from all the communities of the province witnessed this great moment, felicitated and appreciated the jubilarians for their life of fidelity.

The climax of the celebration was the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. IC Jacob SDB, the provincial secretary of the Salesians of Kolkata Province. In his homily, he highlighted the history, importance and significance of the jubilee. He congratulated the Jubilarians for their life of fidelity and witnessing life. He concluded his homily with the words of Jesus: “Be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” and invited everyone to embrace God’s love, seek moral excellence, practice mercy and forgiveness and live a life of holiness. The holy Mass was followed by felicitation and a festal lunch.

On 13 October 2018, Sr. Catherine Das and Sr. Cecilia Kollappally celebrated the 50 years of their Religious Profession at Auxilium Dum Dum. The solemn Holy Eucharist at 9.30am was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dominic Gomes the Vicar General of the Arch-Diocese of Kolkata.  The Jubilerians were led to the altar with the entrance dance performed by the Aspirants. The celebrant in his homily congratulated the two Sisters for their journey of 50 years in fidelity, prayer, faith, love and service. He invited them to Rejoice and give thanks to God for his love endures forever. After the homily the Jubilerians renewed their vows in the presence of the Priests, Religious, members of the Salesian Family, well wishers and friends present for the occasion. They were greeted by the Provincial Sr. Rose Ezarath with golden garlands and crowned by the main celebrant with golden roses.

A felicitation programme took place in the school hall. An array of cultural programme was displayed by the Aspirants and postulants. Sr. Catherine and Sr. Cecilia expressed their sentiments of gratitude to everyone present. The celebration came to an end with the fellowship meal.

Golden Jubilee Celebration of Sr. Catherine Das

The Golden Jubilee celebration  of the Religious profession of Sr. Catherine Das took place on 11 August 2018 at Auxilium Aspirantate. The Liturgy of Thanksgiving for fifty years of faithful service of Sr. Catherine Das was celebrated by His Grace Most Rev. Thomas D’souza Archbishop of Kolkata, accompanied by seven concelebrants.  Adding to the beauty of the celebration was the entrance dance, triple aarti, music and singing provided by the voices of the Postulants and Aspirants of the community. The Liturgy concluded with the crowning of the Jubilerian with a golden crown by the Vice Provincial Sr. Teresa Adampakallel and the golden garland by Superior of the community Sr. Leelamma P.V. as an expression of felicitation and appreciation of the dedicated life of Sr. Catherine.

Soon after the Holy Eucharist the guests gathered in the school hall for a short felicitation programme. Sr. Leelamma welcomed the august gathering and felicitated the guest of honour His Grace Most Rev. Thomas D’souza with a bouquet of flowers. She briefed the audience about the life of Sr. Catherine and her precious and unique vocation as an FMA. The journey down Memory Lane brought back recollections of lifelong dreams, challenges, and hopes.  The aspirants staged a wonderful and mesmerising cultural show with a welcome dance, mime and a fusion dance. The cutting of the Jubilee cake was a memorable event where the Jubilerian was accompanied by the Vice Provincial Sr. Teresa Adampakallel and Sr. Leelamma P.V. The Aspirants composed a jubilee song to felicitate her at this juncture which was followed by extension of greetings and wishes by the invitees. The stage programme was concluded with much laughter and a final word of appreciation from Sr.  Catherine. Then the Archbishop was called upon stage to bless the sumptuous meal after which all were invited to partake of the same meal where stories of the Jubilarian’s life continued to be shared among the invitees.

Golden jubilee celebration of Sr. Dorothy Gomes at Auxilium Barasat

 

Jubilee is a milestone on the journey of life and a reminder of God’s fidelity all through.  Auxilium Barasat   anticipated and celebrated the golden jubilee of Sr. Dorothy Gomes who had come to visit our province and the North East provinces of Guwahati and Shillong from Chennai.  Sisters  from Park Circus, Gobra and Sr. Mary George U from Dum Dum and the entire Aspirantate community joined in the celebration.

The chapel was all decked in golden jubilee theme   befitting for the celebration of a person who had lived her consecration with great love for Jesus. Before the Eucharist could begin a corsage of gold  was pinned on the habit of Sr. Dorothy by Sr. Elizabeth Makil.  Fr. Joe Kallarangatt celebrated the Jubilee Mass with an apt homily and interspersed with elevating tributes.  The jubilee Eucharist was ushered in with a graceful and rhythmic entrance dance by the boarders.  The introduction to the mass on the jubilee was beautiful and comprehensive.  The aspirants’ choir was melodious and made the Mass truly solemn.  After the Mass the jubilarian was garlanded by Sr. Mary George U and memorial photos were clicked with all the sisters present.

After this, all proceeded to the Mazzarello hall for the felicitation ceremony.  The boarding choir initiated the ceremony with a melodic jubilee song followed by a modern prayer dance ‘Jesu nam Pukare’.  The aspirants did a short musical on the historical vision of St. Mary Mazzarello,”I entrust them to you” connecting it with the life of Sr. Dorothy Gomes.  A hilarious comedy presented by the boarders made the hall fill with gales of laughter.  The little boarders took Sr. Dorothy back to  Chennai with their humorous lunki dance which is famous hit from the movie, ‘Chennai Express”  Sr. Dorothy addressed the assembly with the inspirational story, “”Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!” the programme came to a close with the vote of thanks by Sr. Stella, who shared her experience with Sr. Dorothy as a young sister and how she even now look up to her as her role model.  Every celebration is an experience, the external fades away, and the internal lingers and echoes in the most depth of our hearts. Today our hearts are filled with Gratitude and joy that over flows within us as we recall the path, Sr. Dorothy Gomes have travelled, in these 50 years in our Institute. We thank the Almighty for accompanying her in marvellous ways, all through these years and keeping her safe, healthy and productive in His vineyard.

Provincial Community Day, Golden Jubilee celebration of Sr. Elizabeth Joseph, Transmission of PCI 2016, Seminar on CPP were held at the Provincial House, Dum Dum from 7th – 10th October  2016. About 50 FMAs gathered to celebrate it in great joy and gratitude.

Having kept the theme for the Provincial Community Day “Channels of mercy radiating joy and hope”, a thanksgiving Vigil Service led us to appreciate what Sr. Rose Ezarath, our provincial is for each of us and our wishes for her.

Festal songs and felicitations and the opening of the Exhibition of charts on Works of Mercy accomplished in the community and Produti casa kept us all in a joyful and festal mood. A significant prayer moment was when the 23 animators offered burning candles to signify the light of Christ in them and in their communities and to allow it to radiate for the good of our mission among our young people.

The following day was yet another day to rejoice at the Golden Jubilee of our dear Sr. Elizabeth Joseph. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist by His grace Most Rev. Thomas D’souza of the Kolkata archdiocese along with 6 priests, who highlighted and appreciated and thanked Sr. Elizabeth’s fidelity and her generous self giving these 50 long years, while quoting Mother Teresa of Kolkata he said: “It’s more important to be faithful than successful”. It was then felicitations and jubilations that followed that concluded with the FMA anthem O qual Sorte. The agape took all of us to realize that we all belong to one big Salesian family.

A special moment to remember on this day was the FMA having tea along with the poor people of Dum Dum.

In the evening Sr. Annie T. the provincial bursar met the group of Animators and principals and spoke of certain important issues pertain to accounts, billing, entries, Taxes etc.

CPP.jpgThe 3rd day took us to the Transmission of the PCI shared by Sr. Rose Ezarath, our provincial, Sr. Teresa Adampakallel, the vice provincial and Sr. Mini Chettayil, the province Secretary. Sr.Rose briefed us on the 4 main topics, viz the Historical Aspect; Identity of the FMA; the charismatic identity and the Spirituality of the FMA. The PCI participants were convinced and edified and absorbent at Sr. Piera Cavaglia’s talk which had such depth, richness, conviction, passions and love for the Institute. Sr. Teresa took us to understand who an FMA Animator is and the entrustment of the Institute has its origin in the Eucharist which derives from the mission of animation and accompaniment, with a presence that welcomes, knows and loves every person, takes care, knows how to move from words to dialogue and a mother with a prayerful heart as was Mother Mazzarello a wise animator. Sr. Mini gave us valuable inputs of the 3 main functions of history: Great and brief history; Importance and Types of sources (written and unwritten) and Documentary Sources that consisted of: Sources of personal data; Titles of studies; Memoirs; Various Registers and Narrative sources. She stressed the need to write the House Chronicles in the right manner as this serves as History to be preserved.

Sr. Lily P. enthusiastically shared with us the Meeting of South Asian Unit of ACSSA- Association of the Promoters of Salesian History, inviting us again to value, appreciate and be proud of the history of our own Institute.

The fourth day was over to Sr. Stella P. and Sr. Leelama P. who gave us input Sessions on CPP, viz; What is FMA CPP, its need, it takes a community to protect a child, Child Exploitation; CPO: CPC; LEC, PEC: Complaint Box: Types of Abuses and the Guiding Principles and Objectives of the Policy. Sr. Leelama enlightened us on Staff recruitment Procedures: Training and Orientation of Staff: Preventive Measures: Prohibitive Behavior and Code of Conduct. 2 movies were shown pertaining to Child Abuse. There was group work followed by  Case Studies  enacted by 4 groups.

Finally the day concluded with forming a Drafting Committee (FMA) to once again read, review and consolidate the given Declaration Form for the code of protective behavior to be given to each staff member. True indeed these days, we may say were not just days of enrichment and benefit but days of grace, solidarity, love and gratitude!

JUBILEE BELLS AND CELEBRATIONS at Auxilium Najafgarh

The Golden Jubilee bells pealed all around Najafgarh and they resounded the FMA houses of New Delhi with a grand Jubilee celebration of Sr. Elizabeth Joseph’s 50 years of faithful fidelity to her vocation and dedicated service in God’s Vineyard especially among the Youth and Ex-students. The real meaning of community communion, family spirit and sisterly love among the members were typically seen and experienced on the day of celebration 13th September 2016 at Auxilium, Najafgarh.  This was a unique celebration, the FMA communities came prepared in various ways and at 11 am the Trinitarian community of Najafgarh gave warm welcome to each and every one who came to join the celebration.

Twelve priests concelebrated the Holy Eucharist main celebrant being Rev. Fr. K.A Joseph SDB the rector of Don Bosco Najafgarh.  During his homely he highlighted on  the call of God to each one of us and how we have to respond to His call by our life of fidelity and faithfulness in His service, quoting from the scripture passages  Lev.25: 1-17, Letter to the  Ephesians 1: 3-14 and Jn. 15: 1-8.

After the holy Mass there was the felicitation and cultural programme put up by the Auxilium Snehalaya children with their rhythmic steps and melodious singing. Sr. Elizabeth with joy filled heart and profound gratitude to God appreciated and expressed her gratitude for everything that was done to mark this day a memorable one. It was indeed a day of blessing and the day to look at the past, to relive the present with love and renew and reconstruct the future for God’s Kingdom.  After the festal meal all greeted each other and parted for their destination thanking and praising God for this wonderful day.

 

Golden Jubilee pre-celebration of Sr. Elizabeth Joseph at Auxilium Convent Barasat

Auxilium Convent Barasat celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Religious Profession of Sr. Elizabeth Joseph on 18 June 2016. The celebration commenced with the solemn Eucharistic Celebration at 5.30 pm presided over by Rev. Fr. Mourlin Ferando SJ and two other con-celebrants. Sr. Elizabeth was welcomed to the chapel which was adorned with golden flowers and bells, with rhythmic steps and golden crown. She carried in a lighted candle representing her 50 years of dedication and service in the vineyard of the Lord while a short narration was echoed of her life in the Institute and her contribution in the mission of the young. The well sung hymns by the boarders of Barasat brought in an angelic atmosphere throughout the celebration. Fr. Mourlin in his homily highlighted her caring attitude in times of adversity and her special love for the poor. Her attractive smile and simple approach to the people around are praiseworthy. He congratulated her and assured her of many more years of service in the vineyard of the Lord. At the end of the Holy Mass she was garlanded by Sr. Mary George U and crowned by Fr. Mourlin amidst loud applause and wishes.

GJ - 4This was followed by felicitation and entertainment in the Mazzarello hall of the aspirantate. The curtain was opened with a Jubilee song choired by the boarders congratulating her for 50 years of  ‘Yes’ to God. She was specially honoured with wishes and greetings while she cut the Golden Jubilee cake marking her joy of belonging to the Lord. The awesome performance of the boarders and the ‘thiruvadira kali’ of the aspirants added colour and joy to the celebration.  The on-stage celebration was concluded with her Golden words where she profusely thanked God and all those who were part of this celebration.

A special note of thanks was rendered to the community for the pre-celebration of her jubilee before she set out to the new community at Najafgarh. This was followed by the agape meal served at the Aspirantate community.

Twin Celebrations held

The culmination of the month long earnest spiritual pilgrimage on the theme, “Be a Home that evangelizes and witnesses to the young people of today” made by each community of Kolkata province reached its climax during the dual celebration of the provincial community day and the Golden jubilee of Sr. Alice Olikal, Sr. Anna Varkey, Sr. Rose Simon and Sr. Teresa Varkey from the Province of  Guwahati on 21- 22 November  at Provincialate, Dum Dum.

The celebrations kicked off with the Vigil service on the theme of the Provincial Community Day   prepared by the community of Vasant Vihar.  Sr. Maria Pettayil, the provincial brought in, a symbolic home accompanied by all the animators with placards defining 22  characteristics of a home in procession to place them at the feet of our Blessed Mother.  The prayer service was a deep reflection on the home and challenges faced by the young people of today and an expression of thanksgiving to God for the gift of our Provincial Sr.Maria.  The transition that took place was to the land of fun and frolic with the arrival of two fantastic clowns played by Sr. Elizabeth Joseph and Sr. Anand Tirkey who made everyone present to be nimble to dance and prance round. The humorous games and competitions conducted by Sr. Leelamma Palliparambil made the hall vibrate with fun, joy and laughter. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various games, quiz competition on Sr. Angela Vallese, for the study of the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium and for the news reporting.

Provincial expressed her gratitude to each member of the province for their very gift and for their contribution to the growth of the Province.  It was followed by the inauguration of the exhibition of charts, posters and portraits done for the death centenary celebration of Sr. Angela Vallese and the various activities carried by each community. The next inauguration was the display of the House productions. The meal which followed was varied and delicious prepared by various close by communities.  The day drew to a close with the festal greetings to Sr. Maria by Sr. Teresa Adampackallel, the vice Provincial.

On 22nd November 2014 dawned with the chiming of the golden bells announcing the jubilee celebrations of our four sisters filling everyone’s mind with vibrations of gratitude.  The Morning Prayer prepared by the sisters of New Chumta was an overflow of gratitude for the 4 sisters who have served the Lord for half a century.

The Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop Most Rev.Thomas D’Souza and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Nirmol Gomes SDB, the Provincial of Kolkata and other twelve priests was solemnized with the contribution of various communities. In his homily the Archbishop drew the message  from his visit to the Holy land comparing the dead sea and the sea of Galilee, giving the message that which overflows enhances life and that which is stagnant is destructive for life.   He said that the Sea of Galilee represents the life of the jubilarians   whose testimonial life benefitted many.  He concluded his homily quoting the address of Pope Francis to Mother General and Chapter members exhorting us to be relevant, for today’s young people.

The felicitation programme consisting of song, speeches, dances, tele-movie on the life of the jubilarians by sisters, students, candidates, past pupils was beautifully anchored by Sr. Basanti Ekka. Sr. Anna Varkey on behalf of the jubilarians expressed her gratitude. The celebration drew its curtains with a fraternal agape hosted by the community of Dum Dum.
