Mobile Photography Workshop

Photography.pngThe announcement of Mobile Photography Workshop at Nitika Don Bosco captured the attention of 22 active participants: priests, brothers, sisters and laity from different parts of Kolkata.  Sr. Rosy Vellion, Sr. Rejina Joseph, Sr. Jancy Valliyil and Sr. Shanti Tirkey were the privileged ones to take part in it.   It was held from 11-13th April 2019.  The vibrant tutors were Fr. Nirmal Toppo SDB and Fr. Gilbert Choondal SDB.  They imparted to the participants the ways to use cell phone  camera and video and also explained and showed the rule of third, aperture, Exposure rules, ISO& shatter speed, types of shots, photos for reflection and documentation etc.   The course was comprised of theory and practical. The participants profited much from the workshop.

Seminar cum Workshop on Social Media

A three-day Seminar cum Workshop on Social Media was organised from 30 September to 02 October 2016 at Auxilium Convent, Bandel.  It was coordinated by Sr. Elizabeth Valliyil the Coordinator of the Province for Social Communication. 22 sisters from different communities participated in the seminar. In the keynote address Sr. Rose Ezarath, the provincial quoted Pope Francis: “Communication is a gift of God which involves a great responsibility. It has the power to build bridges, to enable encounter and inclusion, and thus to enrich society”.

The seminar focused on “Social Media and Ethics, the New Revolution” by Fr. Anthony Erathara SDB, rector, Don Bosco Seminary, Bandel, the Profile of a Master communicator, Art of writing Chronicles, news and reports by Sr. Elizabeth Valliyil and video making and editing by Sr. Shanty Tirkey.

The impact of social media on society, balance in digital media, ethical  decision, privacy in sharing personal information, reputation, relationships in digital media, online security were presented in brief by Fr. Anthony on 1st October morning. The afternoon sessions on 1st and whole day of 2nd October was spent in practice of publisher and video making and editing. The participants found the seminar and workshop useful and rewarding.

Media Mesmerizing

 A three day of seminar on Media Technology was organized by the Social communication Sector of the Province from 1 – 3 October 2014 at Auxilium Provincial House, Dum Dum. There were 27 participants form different communities of the Province. The animators of the seminar were Sr. Rosy Veliyan, Sr. Stella Potteparambil, Sr. Esther Rani Abraham and Sr. Mini Chettayil.

The Seminar commenced with the welcoming address by Vice Provincial, Rev. Sr. Teresa Adampakallel. She stressed on the importance of Communication and on the use of Technology in today’s world referring to the message of Holy Father Pope Francis on the occasion of the World Communication Day. “The internet is the gift of God and we are to use it in a useful way”.

The resources persons dealt the following topics such as Art of News Reporting by Sr. Stella Potteparambil, Challenges of media in today’s educative scenario by Sr. Esther Rani Abraham, Photography & Power Point Presentation by Sr. Rosy Veliyan and Social Network and use of Publisher by Sr. Mini Chettayil.

At the end of the seminar Sr. Rosina Thomas said, “Sr. Esther Rani Abraham’s talk on the importance of the media and our role as educators to help the youth was very thought provoking. Sr. Rosy made great effort to make us understand the basics of power point presentation and photography. It was very interesting”. Sr. Sabita Nayak added, “After the Media Seminar the light of Media Technology began brightly shining.”

Sr. Restitula Kharpran expressed her joy saying, “All the resource persons were very much to the point. I profited much. They updated us about media to become efficient in our educative mission. It is an encouragement for me to update myself with Media Technology.”
