The Perpetual Profession of Sr. Bara Binita, Sr. Sten Ba-I-Thiang, and Sr. Xalxo Shashikanta

DUM DUM: The perpetual profession of Sr. Ba-I-Thiang Sten, Sr. Binita Bara and Sr.  Shashikanta Xalxo was held on 26 May 2024 at St. Patrick’s Church Dum Dum on the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Most Rev Thomas D’ Souza, the Archbishop of Calcutta officiated the Holy Eucharist along with eight Con-Celebrants. The theme of this celebration was taken from Isaiah 49:5 “I have carved you in the palm of my hand.” The Holy Mass commenced with an entrance dance led by the candidates. It was an incredibly inspiring and touching moment when their parents handed the would-be perpetuals to the provincial Rev. Sr. Leelamma Palliparambil FMA. She, in turn, offered them to the Lord.

This great and glorious event was witnessed by parents and relatives of our sisters, friends, parishioners, well-wishers and the special invitees. The event was also blessed by the graceful presence of Sr. Elizabeth George the provincial of Shillong Province.

In his homily, the Archbishop exhorted about the Trinitarian love and sacrifice. He then explained this love should be transmitted by all the baptized so, the Lord has chosen and called these sisters to share the love of God among His people by following the charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello. Soon after the Mass Rev. Fr. Irudaya Raj the parish priest of St. Patrick parish and Archbishop Thomas D’ Souza congratulated and felicitated the perpetually professed sisters with a token of love. Dr. Utpal Goswami, Parish Pastoral Council Secretary, expressed the joy of witnessing the celebration and then he thanked Sr. Provincial and parish priest for hoisting the profession in the parish. It was indeed a great moment for all who were present for this occasion.

After which all proceeded to the community hall for a short cultural program which was performed by aspirants, parents and relatives of the perpetually professed. The rich culture of our country brings a variety of joy and enrichment. It was followed by a sumptuous meal served for all.

On 26 May 2022, once again, the Salesian Sisters of Kolkata Province exults in joy for the gift of Sr. Ranjita Nayak and Sr. Suzan Maria Louis who committed themselves in perpetuity to the Lord at the Basilica of the Holy Rosary, Bandel.

The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Most Rev. Thomas D’ Souza, the Archbishop of Kolkata along with other con-celebrants.  Archbishop started his homily highlighting the importance of the forthcoming synod and reminding the assembly that we are pilgrims, journeying towards our heavenly home and we are a family of communion. Basing on the reading of the occasion he stated that the vocation to be religious is not received due to one’s own merit but God’s love for us, his great compassion for the humanity. In the book of Jeremiah the Lord has promised His everlasting love for the humanity. Finally, he invited the sisters to be effective models to the young people after the example Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello keeping in mind their motto of the profession: ‘Called to Love, Send forth to Serve’.

The presence of the parents and relatives of the professed sisters, the religious, friends, the Salesian cooperators and the students brought color and delight to the celebration. The Eucharistic celebration was followed by felicitation and a fraternal meal.

JOYFUL WITNESSES OF THE MERCIFUL FATHER RED LETTERED DAY FOR THE 12… A DOZEN FIAT FOR GOD…

Perpetual

The air was filled with the excitement on 24th May,

For there was something to happen on that great day.

As the 12 sisters at 6 am arrived at Jumaikela Parish,

At Don Bosco church they had many things to cherish.

They were brought inside the church singing and dancing,

Accompanied by their parents they held the light shining.

To the Lord they offered their life in the symbol of this light,

Saying their final ‘Yes’ to God to shine bright.

Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Kerketta, the Bishop of Jashpur brought Jesus in table well spread,

16 priests and 2000 people present there joined the breaking of the bread.

The thought provoking homily by the bishop ringed in our ears,

Being witnesses of God’s mercy through our years.

After the homily the twelve said their ‘Yes’ to God forever,

And remain faithful to Him and to reject Him never.

They received the crown for their Fiat,

And with joy in their hearts, they danced and sang their Magnificat.

They offered their hearts to the Lord in a symbol of Love,

To show their gratitude to God above.

Their YES was a sign of love and dedication,

For all present there to serve Him with devotion.

Our hearts were happy to receive the food for our soul,

Then the 3 hours felicitation by all,

This brought a vibration of joy in the hearts of everybody.

This helped us to enjoy the food for our body.

All these moments brings a thought of gratitude in our hearts,

To the God Almighty who was present in all our arts.

Then we turn our eyes to Bishop of Jashpur, priest, religious, parents and all the parishnors,

For their availability to join, in our day so Joyous.

6

It brings great joy to thank our dear provincial Sr. Rose Ezarath,

As she showed these sisters the holiness as their only path.

Our sister’s hard work, all done with love,

It made our celebration all full of dance.

We shall love to remember these days of joys,

And live it in our daily chores.

Wishing the 12 our very love and prayers,

To continue the rest of their years with God’s grace.
