SEMINAR ON MORAL EDUCATION

Seminar 2

In the changing and challenging scenario of the modern world   with abounding paradoxes, can value education be still a choice or should value education be made a compulsory subject in every school?

A seminar based on the importance, objective and skill of teaching Moral Education in school was conducted at St. Anthony’s School, Jaigaon on 7th April 2016.

Sr. Margaret Fernandes, the Principal of St. Anthony’s School, Jaigaon welcomed and introduced the resource person,Ms Yashika Jain of Macmillan Publishers. Teachers participated with enthusiasm asking question and interacting with the main speaker. Emphasis was laid on character building not only through teaching about values rather witnessing them through one’s personal life. Youngsters today have already a long drawn list of do’s and don’ts. Hence they know what is true. However it is essential that we as educators stand beside them, helping them to cross check their list.Through various activities, she kept the teachers busy who took keen interest in the session.

Mr. Pankaj Bansal on behalf of all thanked Miss. Yashika Jain and the organizers. The staff of Auxilium New Chumta who had joined the seminar were also grateful for the opportunity provided for them.

All the teachers are also thankful to Sr. Margaret and the management of S.A.C.S. for giving this golden opportunity to take part in this seminar so as to be an effective and influential educator who lives by values.

COME APART AND REST A WHILE

Retreat From March 8-15, 2016 hearkening to the call of the Lord “Come apart and Rest A while”, 25 Animators of the FMA Kolkata Province hurried off to St. Mary’s hill Kurseong to be energized and enthused to be messengers of peace and joy in this year of Mercy. The driving force was Fr. Biji Thomas sdb, Rector of Don Bosco Liluah.

Sitting at the feet of Jesus they treasured each word as the preacher Fr. Biji led the retreatants  to delve deeply into the treasury  of his deep encounter with the Lord. As they came face to face with reality in the light of  the Word of God ,strong convictions etched in their memory ; to let the Rule of love supersede obedience, the Lord calls  to be Holy  and sets  apart to be fruitful at all times, under all circumstances in and out of season,  calling to greater  self giving.

“I am raised up to be fellow workers with God” was another clarion call to be holy as God is Holy. God has not exposed my weakness because of His mercy. Thus I am called to cover the evil and the nakedness with all charity. Discerning everything to be good but not everything beneficial is a wise decision to live for the greater glory of God.

Descending from the Tabor experience the 25 community leaders surely desired to let their  holiness to flow into the streets of their community living amidst dust and dirt but  still  remain crystal clear  so as to change the saltiness in others ‘ lives after the example of  Don Bosco who willingly plunged into saving souls. They courageously set sail to collect the broken pieces of their lives understanding fully well that no one is a finished product, that we are all work in progress. So not to give up on any one but cling to Him in order to put on the mind of God .They are convinced that   being  at the feet of  the  sisters  and not at their  head in love and service will bring about communion. For they are sure that when they go after God, God will come after them.

Sr. Provincial  Sr. Rose Ezarath interspersed the community leaders with her “Pep Talks “ to fall in line with the Post Chapter journey of our Institute keeping the profile of the FMA as our pointer to be prophets of hope and joy among  the young by keeping alive the Spirit of Mornese seen as the “ House of the Love of God “.

PilgrimagePilgrimage to the cathedral of Darjeeling Diocese after the retreat was another unique experience   to encounter God, during the Year of Mercy.

On 17th March Fr. Nobby George sdb from Salesian College Sonada presented to the animators the “Encyclical of Pope Francis on care for our common home “ – Laudato Si

Going back to the book of Genesis we read  what God told our first parents ‘cultivate it and guard it” for everything God created He found it very good. Today the ground we stand is so fragile. So, as custodians of mother earth we are called to keep it safe for the future generation.

SeminarDelving deeper into the encyclical Fr. Nobby added that human life is grounded on three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself. According to the Bible, these three vital relationships have been broken, both outwardly and within us. This rupture is sin. The harmony between the Creator, humanity and creation as a whole was disrupted by our presuming to take the place of God and refusing to acknowledge our creaturely limitations. Thus the custodians of mother earth are called for rreconciliation with creation and our responsibility to be taken to task. We as community leaders have a great role to play, Fr. Nobby added. This will enable us to strike out new paths meeting the needs of the present with concern for all and without prejudice, towards coming generations.

We were presented with practical tips which could help us to speak with an attitude of the heart, one which approaches life with serene attentiveness, which accepts each moment as a gift of God to be lived to the full. Thus to promote a new life style establishing a new covenant based on justice and in solidarity with all.

24 Learning to be teachers of Faith

First to tenth December at Nitika Don Bosco,

There gathered some twenty four  to acquire faith.

They all came with a lot of gusto,

So that they may be a guide to the Heavenly Gate.

Second to sixth was Fr. Gilbert’s days,

As he taught us various ways of methods and skills.

Everything on earth has some ways,

Bringing God here for all who got a will.

Movie, video, add and all had to give a lot about God,

Was the overall message that he showed.

Through magic, cards, Youcat, CCC and quiz, we learned,

To teach the love of God we owed.

Sixth afternoon we had a break,

As evening came with a greater thing.

Many came there with a wreck,

But all experienced a different being.

Songs and dances gave a nice blend,

To the following discussions that followed in.

Everyone seemed to be relaxed at the end,

So together we could relish the food preprayed.

Seventh was Fr. Joe’s turn to take up classes,

On Christian faith and meaning of life.

These classes helped us to understand,

That there is meaning in all we do and experience in life.

Eighth continued with the same type,

Freud, Maslow’s and Frankl’s teaching’s he taught.

All this teachings showed us the differences of views,

But to self- transcendence was the best he taught.

Then, there was the climax of our sessions,

When we got the news to go for an outing

It was the day of Our lady‘s Immaculate conception,

So we decided to visit the places with excitement.

First Victoria memorial, gave the historical touch,

To know our Kolkata more and more.

Mother’s tomb and Church at Gobra gave us a Godly experience,

To make us feel that God is above all.

Ninth we waited eagerly for the sessions,

As it was to be something about young.

It was now JTM’s turn,

To show us the Fathers Love in different forms.

It was not the only thing that we learned,

But also to love each other as one.

From many places we had come,

Yet, were glad to know that we were working for the ONE above.

Tenth we brought our thoughts together,

To see how much we had learned.

All shared, “It was enriching to be together”,

It was the fruit of the hard work that our fathers had done.

We express our thanks to God for the lovely days that He had given

Our superiors also we thank for giving us a chance to be a part of that event.

It’s now time to go ahead with our daily works with a thought,

That God’s love for all is ever NEW.
