Penitential service held at Auxilium Barasat

IMG_0995.JPG

As the saying goes ‘Charity begins at home.”, the inmates of Auxilium convent Barasat, had an ample opportunity to experience that, Forgiveness begins within one self.  In order to celebrate our life together as a community and as a province on October 5, 2016 evening the whole community gathered in the chapel for a penitential service. The ambient was well prepared for the occasion with a cross planted in the middle of the chapel a miniature of Calvary. Each one was asked to bring a stone along for the event. The service began with a song ‘come as you are into his presence’ followed by spending some time on reflecting on the stone each one picked up and brought along. The readings for the occasion were from Isaiah 1:18-19 and gospel taken from St. John 8: 1- 11, both the readings were on the mercy and forgiveness of God. The well prepared video clips enabled each one to look into ourselves and identify the areas where we need forgiveness and where we need to extend our forgiveness to others.

The prayer service enabled each one to introspect the areas which are hardened like a stone over the years and where we need to soften it. After reflecting on these and asking God’s mercy and forgiveness each one placed the stone at the foot of the cross. It was indeed a unique experience for many. The boarders, teachers and house girls were grateful and expressed their contentment for such enriching experience.

As the Provincial community day preparation invites as to be merciful towards the less fortunate, the community of Auxilium Barasat on October 1, 2016, invited the senior citizens of our neighborhood to have lunch with the community.  Around 25 of our neighbors came to dine with us. Some of them were unable to walk so we brought them by cycle van. Most of them were the beneficiaries of the weekly ration which we distribute. Boarders were most enthusiastic in assisting them.

After lunch they entertained them with songs and dances. All of them were very happy to spend some time with us and they expressed their gratitude to one and all. Some the old ladies expressed their desire to have such encounters often. All the community members felt happy and contented to bring a smile to the heart of these less fortunate brethren of ours.

THE MERCY OF GOD IS INFINITE

mercy-of-god

On Wednesday, 31st August 2016 at Auxilium Convent School, Dum Dum, Class XI C students presented Pope Francis and his cherished ideals of mercy. They started the programme with Pope Francis’ prayer for the Jubilee year of Mercy followed by a dance performance. It portrayed how mercy comes amidst us, the deprived mortals. After the dance, they presented a skit subtitled ‘whoever is thirsty come to me and drink’. The skit was about a woman who had been convicted of committing adultery. The local people brought her before Jesus and asserted that as per the ancient law of Moses, the woman should be stoned to death. Jesus, the source of eternal mercy, immediately said, “Whoever among you has never committed a sin will throw the first stone.” All the people withdrew. The Lord’s mercy saved the woman’s life. With the skit the old adage “to err is human, to forgive is divine” is proved true again.

Soon after, a song followed – ‘Blot our offence make us worthy. Lord have mercy. The crux of the programme came to the fore with a clipping. A short video showed Pope Francis message to the youth which he delivered on the XXXI World Youth Day  held in Krakow, Poland. The video shows how Pope Francis asked the young people of today to believe in prayers, Sacraments and the power that lies within them. Pope Francis also asked us to be an ardent disciple of Jesus and follow His message of mercy. “Listen to your hearts and fly high,” says Pope Francis. The clipping showed how Pope Francis interacts with ordinary people and transforms them into extraordinary people for the Lord.

The programme ended with Sr. Principal’s message that mercy is the essence of a forgiving mind.

The families welcomed them as they went from house to house singing Christmas carols, proclaiming the birth of Jesus and praying for each family.

On 27 December the young people together with the sisters and novices went to the Missionary Sisters of Charity at Doranda, Ranchi to share the joy of Christmas with babies of Shishu Bhavan. The MC Sisters were edified with the noble gesture and the spirit of sacrifice.

The carol team together with the Novitiate community visited St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ranchi to obtain the Plenary Indulgence granted by Pope Francis during the Year Mercy.  Most of the children it was the first time that they went out from their villages. It was a unique privilege for them to have visited the cathedral for they only have heard ‘Maha Girja’. May the Year of Mercy inspire many to experience the Father’s Merciful love.
